CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A total of 21 citations were issued Saturday night while officers conducted a DUI checkpoint in Chula Vista, authorities said.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, officers conducted the roadblock in the 600 block of Palomar Street from 6 p.m. to midnight.
A total of 2,014 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint and 621 vehicles were screened. Authorities said two motorists conducted field sobriety tests, though none were arrested for a suspected DUI.

Another 14 drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended license, and three vehicles were impounded. Seven other drivers were given citations for reasons not provided.
“DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,” authorities noted in a press release. “The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.”…
