Spencer Leak Jr., a prominent Chicago funeral home executive, family man and community supporter whose name was closely tied to one of the city’s most respected Black-owned family businesses, has died. His death, which came after a seizure, has sent shock waves through Chicago and among the many families who knew the Leak name as a source of dignity during their most difficult moments.
Leak was part of the multigenerational leadership of Leak & Sons Funeral Homes, a Chicago institution originally founded by his grandfather, the Rev. A.R. Leak, nearly a century ago.
