Storm Center PM Update: Storms Possible This Evening; More Late Week Rain

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — We’ve seen showers and thunderstorms develop West River over the early afternoon, with a few strong to severe storms popping up on occasion.

Additional scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in central and eastern KELOLAND as we head into the evening and into the first part of the night. Some of those storms, in a similar manner to what we saw out west, may become strong to severe.

A “Marginal Risk” for severe weather remains in place for central, north-central, northeastern, and southeastern KELOLAND. Wind and hail are the main concerns with any storm that can get itself together.

We’ll get a small break on Monday for central and eastern KELOLAND, but some showers are possible out west later into the day.

There is one proverbial “Fly in the Ointment” situation on Monday: A conditional “Marginal Risk” for severe weather in eastern and southeastern KELOLAND. If we can break the cap that will be in place, wind and hail will once again be the main concerns. If we can’t break the cap, then we’ll have a mainly quiet day.

Rain and storm chances fill in on Tuesday West River, with some showers trying to push toward the James River later in the day. A “Slight Risk” for severe weather is in place for most of western KELOLAND, with a “Marginal Risk” extending as far east as Aberdeen.

The second half of the week is looking a bit unsettled at times, with a daily chance for showers and thunderstorms through at least Friday. We’ll try to get a briefly quiet day on Saturday before shower chances return on Sunday.
