COLUMBIA, S.C. — Authorities say a driver has been charged with a felony after a crash that sent a pedestrian over a bridge railing on Sunday evening.
The Columbia Police Department said the crash happened around 7:45 p.m. on the Gervais Street Bridge. Police said emergency responders found the injured pedestrian beneath the bridge when they arrived.
Preliminary findings suggest a sport utility vehicle was heading west on the bridge when it hit a curb, crossed multiple lanes of traffic and drove onto the eastbound sidewalk. Police said the vehicle then hit a pedestrian who was pushed along the bridge railing before being thrown over it onto the riverbank below…
