Ward urges action after fatal Gainesville domestic shooting

Less than a week after a deadly domestic shooting occurred in northwest Gainesville, Mayor Harvey Ward stressed that domestic and dating violence outreach programs and support are available to residents.

Ward’s comments come after a fatal shooting on May 26 at Creeks Edge Condos, where suspect Xavion Perry III, 31, was connected to the murder of Brooke Elizabeth Smith, 24, before fleeing to Daytona Beach. Despite lifesaving efforts, GPD said Smith succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene.
