PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Exactly one year since being taken into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, a Milford teenager celebrated a major milestone over the weekend and is now beginning to plan for his future.
On Sunday, 19-year-old Marcelo Gomes da Silva received his diploma from Milford High School.
“I am most grateful for my community,” he told CBS Boston. “If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be here today. I wouldn’t be graduating. I could possibly have been in Brazil or anywhere else.”
