WILLIAMSBURG — Missing a sixth officer and expecting to lose his fifth, Williamsburg Police Chief Jason Mochal asked the Williamsburg City Council for permission to hire another officer or two.
Mochal outlined the cost of having a six-officer police force based on the salary scale approved by the city council last year.
Starting wage for a new officer is $27.50 for the next fiscal year and $28.60 for fiscal year 2028. Pay increases with an officer’s experience. An officer at step five, the highest level, will make $34.78 an hour next year…
