The beginning of June has ushered in expanded service on Metra’s Rock Island Line, with more trains operating on both weekdays and weekends.
According to a press release, Metra has added additional trains during the week on the line, and they will also expand weekend service to 40 trains on both Saturday and Sunday, making the service equal on both weekend days.
“Rock Island riders have made it clear that they want additional evening and weekend service to allow more flexibility, whether they’re traveling to the city or the South Side and suburbs,” said Metra CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski in a statement announcing the expansion. “We’re also taking this opportunity to expand weekend service so that the schedules on both Saturdays and Sundays are the same, making the schedules more convenient and easier to understand for both regular and occasional riders.”…
