Recent heavy rains have left standing water across the San Antonio area, creating ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes as Bexar County officials ramp up prevention efforts and urge residents to eliminate stagnant water around their homes.
Crews with Bexar County Public Works have been working since April to control mosquito populations by treating known areas of standing water with larvicide, county officials said. The county is now expanding those efforts by setting traps, testing mosquito specimens for disease and fogging established routes in areas with elevated mosquito activity.
Bexar County’s mosquito abatement program includes monitoring mosquito populations, tracking potential disease risks, preventive treatment along roughly 1,400 center lane miles during each treatment cycle and responding to resident reports of mosquito activity…
