Maya Jama has spoken out for the first time following her breakup with footballer Ruben Dias, offering a candid reflection on the end of their relationship. The Love Island presenter, who returns to UK screens tonight, addressed the separation without naming Ruben directly, touching on the challenges of maintaining privacy in the public eye.

During an appearance on the podcast Cocktails and Takeaways with Madame Joyce and Mariam Musa, Maya responded to recent reports about her split from Ruben after eighteen months together. She commented, “Truth is, even when I tried to keep my relationships private, we get photographed anyway.”

Maya, known for her wholehearted approach to relationships, added, “I’m an all or nothing girl, I don’t casually date, so yes I will love loudly or not at all, and if it ends, it ends. I decided a long time ago not to base personal life decisions on public opinions.”

Speculation about the reasons behind their breakup has been widespread, prompting Ruben Dias to publicly deny any claims of infidelity. In a detailed statement on social media, he emphasized, “I believe Maya deserves all the respect in the world.” He expressed frustration at misinformation, noting, “When my 85-year-old grandad is asking me if I’ve cheated on my girlfriend because he’s seen it repeatedly on the news, that’s where I draw the line on what’s acceptable and what’s not.”

Ruben stressed that their relationship was founded on mutual respect and refuted the rumors directly: “A lie told often enough can start to feel like the truth, and for that reason, I tell you that I didn’t cheat, nor did I ever have the intention or temptation to. The reasons why we broke up are private and belong to us, and we’ve both dealt with it in a very mature way.”

Maya and Ruben’s relationship began after they met at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester. They were seen together at KSI’s Baller League event earlier this year, and in May 2025, they made their relationship Instagram official, sharing moments from a romantic trip to the Amalfi Coast. Despite the public interest, both appear committed to handling their breakup with discretion and respect.
