Congo man sentenced in Cedar Rapids for fraudulent visa scheme

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Congo man was sentenced Monday in Cedar Rapids in connection to a fraudulent visa scheme.

40-year-old Joseph Onolenga Okamba, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was sentenced to six months in prison for allegedly trying to obtain fraudulent visas for citizens. Okamba came to the United States in 2008, and two others involved have already been sentenced.

In a plea agreement, Okamba admitted that the scheme was to get fraudulent visas for family members and friends who were ineligible for citizenship in the United States…
