Belvidere School District to turn former Pope clinic into employee wellness center

Move will help expand alternative high school

ROCKFORD — Renovations are underway to turn the former Pope chiropractic clinic into the Belvidere School District’s new employee wellness clinic, a move that will allow the district to serve more students at its alternative high school.

The District 100 Wellness Center, which is run in partnership with UW Health, will relocate from 1320 East Ave. to the former Pope Clinic of Chiropractic at 1414 N. State St. Readers may recall the chiropractic clinic was previously planned for the area’s first Wing Snob location. Wing Snob is now preparing to go to 336 W. Chrysler Drive, according to Belvidere Community Development Planner Gina DelRose.

The district’s project, which costs approximately $1.3 million including the purchase of the building, is expected to wrap up in August, according to JoAnn Armstrong, the district’s chief financial and operations officer. Then renovations will begin on East Avenue to add classroom space to Everest High School, the district’s non-traditional high school that serves students who need a different learning environment…
