- Frontier passenger tries to jump mid-flight on way to Chicago and chokes flight attendant, police say (themirror.com)
A Frontier Airlines flight bound for Chicago was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Miami Sunday after a passenger caused a serious disturbance mid-air, authorities reported.
Flight 3345 had departed from San Juan, Puerto Rico, en route to Chicago O’Hare International Airport when crew members alerted the Federal Aviation Administration to a disruptive passenger attempting to open the exit doors. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the man insisted on getting off the plane and ignored flight attendants’ repeated commands to remain seated.
The situation escalated when the passenger tried to force his way into the cockpit. An off-duty flight attendant stepped in to sit beside him in an effort to calm him down but was attacked when he left briefly to use the restroom.
Other passengers and crew ultimately restrained the individual, allowing the plane to safely divert to Miami International Airport, where law enforcement officers removed and arrested the man. He faces a misdemeanor battery charge.
Frontier Airlines confirmed that after the delay, the flight continued on to Chicago a few hours later without further incident.
This episode comes shortly after a similar incident on a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Minneapolis, which was diverted to Wisconsin when another unruly passenger caused a mid-flight disturbance. That individual was also detained by law enforcement, and the flight resumed safely after the disruption.
Both incidents highlight ongoing challenges airlines face in managing passenger behavior and ensuring safety during flights.
