Protesters gather at Columbia-area gas station after acquittal in Rick Chow trial

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Protesters gathered at a Columbia-area gas station where a 14-year-old was killed a day after the man who shot him was acquitted of murder.

A jury found Rick Chow not guilty of murder in the death of Cyrus Carmack-Belton on Monday night. The May 2023 shooting happened outside the gas station, which Chow owned at the time, after Carmack-Belton was accused of stealing a bottle of water.

Over a dozen protestors were at the gas station on Parklane Road on Tuesday, chanting and holding signs reading “Justice for Cyrus.”
