Allegheny County has placed 449 formerly unhoused people into permanent homes and created at least 286 affordable housing units—more than halfway to a goal of 500—and a new draft federal spending plan outlines how the county will deploy millions more in housing and homelessness dollars across most of the Pittsburgh region in the coming year.
According to the county’s draft 2026 Annual Action Plan, the “500 in 500” initiative launched in June 2024 had, as of June 30, 2025, produced at least 286 units and moved 449 people off the streets and into stable housing.
