  • Black-out Curtains: “Putting black-out curtains on the main windows of the house, which catch a lot of sunlight, can help keep the heat from traveling inside. Keeping them close will help keep the cool air inside.”
  • UV Screen for Windows: “For those who don’t like curtains, placing a UV film protector will limit the amount of heat traveling through for those who like the blinds open during the day.”
  • Blinds: “Turning the blinds upwards will also help. Heat travels upwards, so if the blinds are facing downward, the heat will rise, which will make the room warmer and make the A/C work more.”
  • Air Filter: “Changing the air filter regularly ensures the unit does not overwork itself and results in a higher bill. It is best to check and change regularly.”

Beyer suggested, “Setting the A/C unit between 76-78 degrees when you are away for work or during the peak heat times of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will help you save money on the electricity bill. For those who have pets inside, you can set it between 74-76 degrees.”…
