Joliet Residents Sue City and Developers Over Massive Data Center Project

A group of Joliet-area homeowners and neighbors has filed suit in the Will County Circuit Court against the City of Joliet and the developers behind the proposed PowerHouse Hillwood data-center campus, asking the Court to set aside the City Council’s March 19, 2026 approvals and stop construction until the project receives the public review and environmental scrutiny Illinois law requires. The complaint was filed on May 17, 2026 and is docketed as Case No. 2026CH000108 in the Chancery Division of the Will County Circuit Court.

The plaintiffs, Joliet Residents for Responsible Growth (JRRG), together with individual residents Craig Doorneweerd, Rhonda Doorneweerd, and Pedro Garcia, say the City fast-tracked a project that will reshape their neighborhoods, strain the region’s water supply, and expose residents to noise and traffic the City never properly studied.
