Rockford apartment fire puts once-homeless resident back to square one

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A burnt scent hovers over the rubble at 150 North 9th Street in downtown Rockford’s periphery.

What remains at the scorched scene is a melted pot, lamppost and charred fences — among a pile of materials as well as personal belongings that resided in the apartment building.

The complex stood until May 29, when an early morning fire broke and eventually left four pets dead and three people injured…
