Gordon Plaza lead attorney calls city statement regarding unpaid judgements “shameful”

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Former Gordon Plaza residents have filed suit against the city of New Orleans and the Orleans Parish School Board.

In a 2006 lawsuit, residents were awarded $75 million for health impacts and property loss due to their homes being built on a former toxic landfill in the 1970s. Even after 20 years and several demolitions, some residents are still waiting on their settlement.

“If you knew you had 149 toxins, why didn’t you relocate us? Now I’m paying taxes on a house, a slab that’s there and I can’t do anything about it,” said plaintiff Gregory Brown…
