Why some Oregon City school administrators saw double-digit pay increases last year

After a long and often contentious process, the Oregon City School District’s budget committee voted last week to recommend a slimmed-down budget that cuts staff and consolidates two schools, while still providing pay increases for employees.

Teachers and parents packed recent budget meetings, holding signs reading “Education over Administration” and criticizing what appeared to be 18% pay raises for administrators.

Parent Nicole Briece Jensen, one of 29 people who signed up to testify during the May 26 budget meeting, said she was “very angry and disappointed to hear” that “department heads are asking for raises in the teens when the teachers and other student-facing staff barely eked out a 3% raise.”…
