Mayor explains $735K proposed for immigrant group in Nashville’s budget

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell continues to address his $3.8B proposed budget as Metro Council is taking feedback on property taxes, affordability, and now immigration-related line-items.

Documents reviewed by FOX 17 News reveal $735,000 proposed for the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) calls TIRRC a “pro-illegal alien nonprofit.” TIRRC says its mission is to amplify voices and organize communities to advocate for immigrant and refugee rights.

During ICE raids in Nashville last year, Metro Nashville started “The Belonging Fund,” which, at the time, Mayor O’Connell said was not funded by taxpayer dollars…
