Methamphetamine surpasses fentanyl in overdose deaths in Arkansas

While the rise in fentanyl-related deaths remains a concern across Arkansas, methamphetamine has now become the leading drug involved in overdose deaths in the state.

Data from the Arkansas State Crime Lab shows methamphetamine involvement in drug-related deaths rose nearly 10% this year.

According to Crime Lab Director and Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Theodore Brown, methamphetamine involvement in drug-related deaths increased from 47% in 2023 to 54% this year, compared to fentanyl involvement, which went from 43% to 16%…
