Tavern on Blake Street set to open after year-long delays

DENVER (KDVR) — One of the most well-known sports bars is finally set to reopen under a new name and ownership after being shuttered for three years.

What was known as Blake Street Tavern sat a block away from Coors Field and always hosted huge crowds for the Colorado Rockies’ opening day until it closed in 2023 after 20 years. However, at the start of 2025, the bar announced its reopening as Tavern on Blake Street with a new concept.

Tavern on Blake Street delays opening after mechanical issues

Owners Ashley and Jeff Moerke bought the bar with the idea of it being a music venue, restaurant and club. At the time, it was set to open on the Rockies’ opening day in 2025. That date came and went, as the bar needed an estimated $1 million in repairs and new features.

At the time, Jeff said the brokers and building owners found several problems during an inspection, and the plumbing and HVAC needed to be fixed. They were also planning on adding a downstairs music venue…
