Controversial arrest in Ypsilanti draws condemnation from residents, officials

YPSILANTI, MI – Ypsilanti residents and officials offered sharp criticism of the city’s police department for its role in a recent arrest that is under review.

The disapproval arose after police arrested a woman near the city’s library in May. A video shared live to social media showed three officers with the Ypsilanti Police Department arresting the woman, restraining her arms and carrying her to a vehicle, according to a video shared on social media. The woman can be heard on the video saying she cannot breathe and that she was about to pass out.
