Major traffic issues were reported on Congress Street in Boston on Wednesday morning.
Boston police said in a social media post at 9:44 a.m. that Congress Street was being shut down outbound between Sudbury and North streets. Both vehicle and pedestrian traffic was impacted.

They said the initial call was for a report of smoke coming from the ground, and a sinkhole was possibly forming. Aerial and ground video from the scene showed steam coming from manhole covers and a section of the street.
Police asked people to avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes while they dealt with the situation. The road has since reopened…
