CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cuyahoga County has officially closed the door on its search for a new home for the courthouse and committed instead to renovating the existing Justice Center facility — but the agreement stops short of saying the courts will remain there permanently.
The county recently announced it is no longer seeking ideas for what to do about the aging court facilities after striking a deal to invest at least $161.6 million in renovating and modernizing existing court facilities downtown.
County Executive Chris Ronayne had started seeking proposals for moving, renovating or rebuilding the court facilities in 2023 as part of a broader effort to update the 50-year-old Justice Center, which includes the courts and the county jail.
