The Lincoln Police Department said the Nuisance Vehicle Ordinance that went into effect last year has been a success in keeping streets safer.
LPD has deemed 150 vehicles disorderly and impounded them since April 15, 2025, including 26 in the last two months and 7 of those over Memorial Day weekend.
According to LPD, 59% of those occurred on O Street and 56% occurred between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. with weekends being the busiest.
City code allows LPD to impound vehicles involved in street racing and reckless driving. Vehicles will be towed but can be immediately released after the first violation, along with receiving a written notice. Vehicles will be impounded for 10 days on the second or subsequent violations…
