Police say deadly shooting in South Omaha neighborhood started with landlord dispute

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Tuesday’s fatal shooting of a man in a South Omaha home originated with a disturbance between a landlord and a tenant, according to an update from Omaha Police on Wednesday.

About a month ago, 55-year-old Matthew Strain had apparently been served an informal eviction notice telling him to vacate the property on 19th Street by June 1 but refused to leave, OPD said in Wednesday’s release.

Court documents show that Strain’s landlord, who also lives in the home, had filed a protection order against him Tuesday morning, stating that Strain had lived with him for four years and was supposed to have moved out of the home by June 1…
