‘I’m going to rescind this’: Rural Polk Co. community fights against wedding barn proposal

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Plans for a new event venue in rural Polk County never made it to “I Do” after the property owner suddenly rescinded his application at a planning commission meeting on Wednesday.

“I’m Ben Badcock; I’m going to rescind this,” Badcock declared after statements from two concerned residents.

He was seeking conditional use approval for his seven-acre property at 3215 Reynolds Road near Bartow.

“I’ve lived in this community for almost 50 years,” Chad Holmes said. “Four generations of my family lived on three properties. This is a quiet, peaceful community, and we don’t want things like this. The last thing we need is people leaving this event and thinking they’re Bo and Luke Duke on our dirt roads.”
