Providence school leaders tout progress ahead of return to local control

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — State and district leaders spent Wednesday evening making their case that Providence Public Schools is ready to return to local control after nearly seven years under state oversight.

The community forum, hosted by the Rhode Island Department of Education and Providence Public Schools, brought together families, educators and community members to discuss the district’s progress and what comes next as control is set to return to the city on July 1.
