Kansas City-area veterans depart for Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Forty-six Kansas City-area veterans departed early Wednesday morning for Washington, D.C., touching down in the afternoon to begin a roughly 36-hour trip visiting memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice.

The veterans are traveling through Honor Flight, an all-expenses-paid program. Unlike typical Honor Flights where veterans are paired with adult guardians, this trip pairs each veteran with a high school student guardian.

Vietnam veteran Glenn Conner caught the bus at 3 a.m. for the early departure. He said seeing the names of fallen comrades on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will make the early wake-up call worth it…
