Thieves target Hellertown eateries for cooking oil as police warn of regional trend

HELLERTOWN, Pa. — Police in Northampton County are investigating what they think could be a cooking oil theft after oil was spilled all over the roads.

Hellertown police say an oil spill was reported Thursday afternoon beginning at the intersection of Main Street and High Street, and spreading east on Wilson Avenue to Oliver Street, East High Street, and north on Main Street.

Hellertown police tell 69 News that businesses within the borough have reported that their tanks storing used cooking oil have been emptied.
