WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Two women were found murdered in the 1980s — one in Fairfax County and another in Stafford County — their bodies abandoned in wooded areas, signs of an assault, with no arrests. More than 35 years went by with no definitive answers as to who was responsible.
18-year-old Amy Baker’s body was found by her family off Interstate 95 in Fairfax County in 1989; just three years prior, another woman, 32-year-old Jacqueline Lard, was discovered buried beneath discarded carpet by teenagers in Stafford County. Amy Baker’s case had few leads, which were extinguished quickly. For Jacqueline Lard’s family, they resolved themselves into believing her killer was already behind bars, facing time for a different case.
It wasn’t until DNA later confirmed that their cases were connected to the same killer. One that hadn’t been on anyone’s radar.
