Man wanted for stealing plaques from Veterans Memorial at Country Park, Greensboro police say

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man suspected of damaging and stealing memorial plaques from the Veterans Memorial at Country Park in two separate incidents, according to Greensboro/Guilford County Crime Stoppers.

In the first incident, eight memorial plaques and approximately 30 gold letters were chiseled from park benches and brick walls. Crime scene investigators processed the scene and reviewed trail camera footage that captured images of the suspect.

The suspect is described as a man in his 40s or 50s with a graying beard. He was seen wearing a baseball cap, glasses, a hooded sweatshirt, pants and ASICS running shoes. He was also carrying a backpack and a fishing rod. Video footage shows the suspect sitting on a bench while holding a chisel before leaving the area as the memorial plaques went missing…
