Anna Maria College lays off faculty weeks earlier than previously announced: ‘Our heads are spinning’

Amid an already abrupt closure, Anna Maria College faculty rushed to campus on Thursday with boxes and rental vans to clear out their offices after an email sent the day before informed them they were being laid off weeks earlier than expected.

“A lot of people panicked,” said Barbara Driscoll de Alvarado, who was an associate professor of humanities at Anna Maria. “It became a disaster, basically.”

Anna Maria in Paxton announced on April 23 that it would end its academic operations the following month. That day, faculty were told that they would be laid off between June 22 and June 30 without severance…
