Judge weighs release of Westport man after murder conviction overturned

WESTPORT, Mass. (WPRI) — A judge has yet to decide whether to grant a Westport man a new trial after he served three decades in prison for the 1996 death of a 3-year-old boy.

Brian Peixoto remains held without bail at the Bristol County House of Correction despite a judge’s decision to overturn his conviction last month.

Peixoto was arrested and charged in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s son, Christopher Affonso Jr., at their Westport home. He was found guilty in 1997 of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison as a result.
