Rare 1820s copy of Declaration of Independence on display in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – As our country gets ready to celebrate its 250th birthday, a piece of history from its 50th is now on display in Richmond.

A rare copy of the Declaration of Independence is in the Virginia Museum of History and Culture for the next month.

The document is one of only two known early test prints from the 1820s.

“As we approached the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration, there was this real effort to preserve that document, not only the ideals of the document, but what it actually looked like,” Andrew Talkov, Senior Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture, said…
