Second Harvest launches summer meal program to help feed children while school is out

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — As children head into summer break, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina is working to make sure kids continue getting meals when school cafeterias close.

The organization announced its “Keep the Lunch Bell Ringing” campaign, a summer meal initiative operating across Davidson, Davie, Randolph, Surry, Stokes and Wilkes counties in partnership with local school systems, federal nutrition programs and Amazon.

The program includes free summer meal sites where children can receive hot meals, parent pickup locations offering frozen and shelf-stable meal boxes, and a home-delivery pilot program in some rural areas…
