CONYERS — Civil rights attorney Ben Crump joined the family of 19-year-old Jason Marshall-Haynes at a June 3 press conference to demand accountability following an April officer-involved shooting in Rockdale County that remains under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Marshall-Haynes, who was shot by a Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office deputy on April 13, appeared alongside his mother, Dr. Makina Marshall, during the news conference at Siloam Church International in South Fulton. The teenager, who is still recovering from his injuries, stood with the assistance of a crutch as attorneys presented video footage of the encounter and criticized the law enforcement response.
“This case is about accountability,” Crump said. “This case is about how we respond when families ask for help during a mental health crisis.”…
