Hotel Thoroughbred brings Bourbon County horse heritage to life in downtown Paris

PARIS, Ky. (FOX 56) — What was once a long-vacant building in the heart of downtown Paris has been transformed into a boutique hotel that celebrates the community’s deep ties to the horse industry.

Hotel Thoroughbred, located on 530 Main Street across from Secretariat Park, officially opened in April after a historic restoration of the building that dates back to 1891.

“The original floors were restored, the original tin ceilings on all three floors, and the original cast iron facade that we uncovered after we took away the stuff they put in in the 50s and 60s. So, everything about this building is original. So, you have an historic building, but then you have also modern touches,” said owner Chris Poynter.

Originally built as a furniture store, the building later housed several retail businesses before sitting vacant for roughly 40 years. Today, the 19-room hotel immerses guests in Bourbon County’s equine culture from the moment they arrive…
