TALLAHASSEE — Scott Titus, North Port’s fire chief, warned officials in Tallahassee on Monday about how property taxes being slashed could be “devastating” for North Port.
His remarks were made prior to the Florida Senate’s vote to approve the inclusion of the property tax change on the November ballot this year. Per state law, 60% of voters will need to approve it for the change to occur.
The amendment would raise the homestead property tax exemption. The homestead exemption would go up from $50,000 to $150,000 in 2027, and then up to $250,000 in 2028. Thereafter, inflation will be taken into account for potential future increases…
