On Saturday, May 30, music fans showed up in droves to Wilmington’s Ladybug Music Festival. Under the new stewardship of I.D.E.A. (Igniting Delaware’s Edutainment Association), the festival involved some new offerings and the same high-energy, female-fronted performances.
Here’s a look at the day in photos.
Things kicked off at 3 p.m. on the Main Stage with Eat The Cake Band. The lively set consisted of original tunes and covers ranging from hip-hop and R&B to soul and rock. Eat The Cake Band’s high-energy performance set the tone for the evening as music fans slowly began to fill the streets.
The music lineup consisted of more than 30 female-fronted acts on seven stages around Wilmington’s Market Street. Along with outdoor stages on Market Street, 5th Street, and Willington Square, several local businesses also hosted stages. The Queen hosted a pre-party at 1 p.m., an upstairs VIP party into the evening, and five bands throughout the day at The Crown. Huxley & Hiro invited festivalgoers into the upstairs space for a lineup of Americana, jazz, and folk artists, and Merchant Bar hosted a range of acts from folk and Americana to rock and soul.
With plenty of shaded seating and open grass for children to play, Willington Square became a natural oasis for families and those seeking respite from the sun…
