Oak Hill Parkway completion near, traffic woes persist

AUSTIN (KXAN) — At some point this year, a major construction project in southwest Austin will finally wrap. The Oak Hill Parkway has been discussed in Austin for decades. The project broke ground in 2021 and should be done in 2026, but exactly when is not yet clear.

Recently, drivers have been able to take advantage of newly opened lanes on U.S. 290 both east and westbound and the new flyovers at State Highway 71, but down on the service road of SH 71, traffic has not seen as much relief.

In fact, KXAN Traffic Anchor Erica Brennes noticed a new bottleneck on westbound SH 71 approaching Fletcher Lane. Currently it’s down to one lane, and the Texas Department of Transportation said it will stay that way through the summer months…
