‘Ridership is taking off!’: Metro breaks 2020 rush hour record with 71.5k+ customers

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is celebrating another win after a 6-year ridership record was broken in one hour.

Metro announced Friday that June 2 marked the busiest 8-9 a.m. rush hour since 2020. The ridership record was shattered after more than 71,500 customers entered the train system.

Metro police issue 807 citations, make 51 arrests in fare evasion crackdown

The Washington Dulles Airport also broke a record on May 22, with more than 7,500 customer trips.
