Simone Biles Reveals Near-Death Health Scare, Shares Update on Instagram

Simone Biles, the decorated seven-time Olympic gold medalist, has opened up about a recent health crisis that nearly cost her life. The 29-year-old gymnast broke her silence on Instagram Saturday after spending several days recuperating at home.

Accompanying a photo of her arm adorned with multiple hospital wristbands, Biles described the incident as one of the most frightening moments she has ever faced. While she did not provide specifics about what triggered the emergency, her message conveyed the seriousness of the situation.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Biles wrote in her Instagram Stories. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week. This was one of, if not the scariest experiences of my life, especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices.”

Her husband, NFL safety Jonathan Owens, was away in Indianapolis for preseason training with the Colts, following his recent signing of a one-year contract worth $1.4 million. His absence made the ordeal particularly difficult for Biles.

Owens later reposted her message on his Instagram story, suggesting that the worst was behind them. Biles also shared a photo of herself resting in bed with her dogs, alongside an image showing her alarmingly high resting heart rate. She expressed gratitude toward her close circle of friends who reached out with support and sent flowers during her recovery.

Though she promised to provide more details about the incident in the future, Biles has yet to reveal the full circumstances.

The news sparked an outpouring of support from fans and fellow athletes alike. Biles, widely regarded as the greatest gymnast in history, last competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she secured three gold medals, adding to her impressive career tally of 11 Olympic and 30 World Championship medals. She has not competed since the Paris Games.

This unsettling health scare comes amid a pivotal time in Biles’ life. Just last week, she told the French publication El Pais that she was still undecided about a potential comeback for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, describing her chances as roughly fifty-fifty.

“I feel fulfilled,” she said. “It’s crazy to see how people always want more and more from you. In the end, the decision will always be mine.”

As fans await further updates, many are sending their thoughts and well wishes to Biles during her ongoing recovery.
