EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Today marks the 82nd anniversary of the June 6, 1944 landings of Allied forces in Normandy, France, which began the liberation of Western Europe during World War II.
The city of Evansville played a huge role in the D-Day invasion through the production of Landing Ship Tanks, or LSTs, and the direct participation of the famous USS LST-325, which remains docked along the Ohio River here in Evansville.
