SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — How many kids do you know who have a book published with their name on it? If you know SkyeMarie Willis, then you know at least one.
At just 8 years old, Willis is already a published author for her book “Counting Stars Until My Daddy Came Home.”
“The book is about my father, because he was in jail for three years,” Willis said. She said she was able to visit him while he was serving, but she still missed having him at home. “He missed four of my birthdays; it was a very hard time for me and my mom and my sister.”
Her aunt, Denika Lundy, who Willis calls her “grandma,” was writing a book about her battle with breast cancer, “Damian’s Mom Has No Hair.” Lundy recalled the time she picked up her son Damian from school. She said kids pointed and laughed at her because she did not have any hair. Damian came to her defense and told his classmates about what his mother had gone through.
Lundy used her experience as an author to help Willis publish a book of her own…
