Clearwater police increase beach patrols one week after ‘teen takeover’ shooting

CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — One week after a 17-year-old was wounded during a “teen takeover” on Clearwater Beach, police say they have increased patrols and are taking steps to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

Clearwater Police Deputy Chief Michael Walek said the department brought in an additional 50 officers to patrol areas in and around the beach from Friday through Sunday.

“You have people out here playing sports. You have families gathered together and having a good time, people having a tent,” Walek said. “This is what it’s supposed to be like.”…
