Kewaskum, WI – Washington County’s annual Breakfast on the Farm is Saturday, June 13, 2026. This year’s host is Iron Ridge Dairy, 5385 Sunset Drive in Kewaskum. The Volm Family Farm began when Merlin and Carol Volm purchased the property in 1958. They started with 33 milking cows. The original farm came with 40 acres and still sits on that same parcel today.
Terry and Kim purchased the farm from Merlin and Carol in 1995 and started Volm Farms. They expanded the herd to 300 milking cows while they owned and operated the farm.
Shaun and Justin, Terry and Kim’s sons, worked on the farm from a young age. Carrying out day-to-day chores alongside their grandpa and dad, they learned the ins and outs of caring for animals, and they were introduced to the crop side of agriculture.
This is where the farm expanded to obtain more acreage. In 2015 Terry and Kim, alongside Shaun and his wife Sandi, and Justin and his wife Richelle purchased a dairy farm in Iron Ridge. This gave Shaun and Justin an opportunity to start their business ventures.
Terry and Kim sold their portion of Iron Ridge Dairy to the four family members in 2021 once Terry helped get the dairy up and running. In 2022, Iron Ridge Dairy took over and purchased Volm Farms and at that time 700 cows were being milked.
The crops grown and harvested each year are corn, soybeans, wheat, and alfalfa. Iron Ridge Dairy now operates mainly out of the Kewaskum location on Sunset Dr., and animals are still being housed at the location in Iron Ridge.
There are currently 15 full time and part-time employees that help keep everything running smoothly. Merlin helped on the farm as much as he could. Terry still helps every day with his main focus being on the calves. The fourth generation is in the making with Shaun and Sandi’s sons Dylan(16) and Collin(11) and Justin and Richelle’s son Ryker(11)…
