A Blast From the Past: Shreveport’s Most Iconic Country Clubs

I must admit, I’m not just an old Shreveport/Bossier country music disc jockey, I’m a real fan of country music.

Granted, I still love to listen to my favorites from Hank Jr., Waylon, Merle and Dolly, but my heart has warmed to the all the great new artists in the country world: Luke Combs, Riley Green, Ella Langley and even Jelly Roll.

And according to the executives in Nashville, country music’s popularity is at an all-time high, crossing over into mainstream pop culture and setting historic records. Artists like Ella Langley and Megan Moroney have broken genre barriers, with Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” and Moroney’s Cloud 9 album simultaneously topping the Billboard Hot 100 and 200 charts.

So, why aren’t there more places in Shreveport/Bossier places to go listen to America’s favorite country and enjoy some country dancing?

Are those days of going to your favorite “honky tonk” long gone? I remember back in the late 1980’s and into the 1990’s, there were country bars everywhere. In fact, I can remember when there were people who wondered if there was any nightclub open in the area that wasn’t country.

Dialing the clock back to anywhere from 1986 to 1995, there really was a country bar on nearly every corner…
